Water Solution Offering for Hurricane Affected Islands
"Bucket Filters" for Emergency Provision of Potable Water in Communities
Water With Blessings, a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is partnering with nonprofits and approved groups to distribute Sawyer PointONE filters and support materials to communities in Puerto Rico and other islands affected by the 2017 hurricanes. In the hands of organized, committed leaders, these filters can provide hundreds of gallons of potable water daily, both in this current crisis and in hurricane seasons to come.
Sawyer PointONE filters (see photo) are attached to a bucket (or some adapted vessel). The filters are hollow fiber, .1 micron absolute, removing 99.9999% of bio-contaminants. They are powered by gravity, require no chemicals or change of filter unit, and are guaranteed for many years of safe drinking water, providing the filter is properly maintained (simple backflush operation), and users are well trained. Well water, rain water, rivers, lakes, streams, even flood water... all can be filtered to provide safe drinking water, with the exception of water that carries a chemical contamination. The Sawyer PointONE eliminates cholera, typhoid, e.coli and other common waterborne disease. In the past 10 years, WWB has successfully distributed over 50,000 of these filters in 42 countries, and the positive response is universal.
Are you an interested group and organization working in Puerto Rico? If so, you may apply for partnership via email@example.com. Please provide sufficient information: description of your group, barrio/municipality, contact information, shipping address and number of inhabitants in need. WWB is an ecumenical Christian organization which serves all of God's thirsty children, regardless of creed or any other realm of difference. We reserve the right to determine suitability of applicant groups, but religious affiliation or lack thereof is not a consideration.
For $20 (the reduced disaster rate pricing) WWB is presently providing approved partners with an Emergency Filtration Kit for Puerto Rico and other islands. The kit includes the Sawyer PointONE with fitments, a 2 gallon emergency water storage pouch, basic instructions in Spanish, training materials and shipping. As long as donations hold out, limited numbers of donated kits will be available for organizations and groups which are able to make acceptable assurances of responsible distribution, training and reporting. Approved partners must report distribution data. Partners must provide buckets (options are possible if buckets cannot be obtained), and bear all costs of distribution. The deep discount on the Sawyer PointONE (retails much higher) is possible thanks to the generosity of Sawyer Products. (WWB is not affiliated with, nor receives financial gain from Sawyer Products.)
Water Project Coordination
Are you an organization or group that is already working to provide potable water to communities in Puerto Rico? WWB is offering a coordinated spreadsheet tool that details the distribution of water solutions in barrios/municipalities in Puerto Rico. This information will make it possible for water projects to avoid duplicating water solutions in some communities, while others are overlooked. Learn more here.
All those affected by the terrible storms of this hurricane season, and those working for their relief, are in our daily prayers.
